The Reaching
The first day we reach Jodhpur at 12:00 AM on the Vande Bharat. We take an auto to the Zostel and crash.
The Grand Entrance of Mehrangarh
I saw on the Gmaps the views from the roof and as you do with Gmaps we went with absolutely zero expectations. For our surprise the views were stunning, the view of The Mehrangarh fort was majestic, vast absolutely captivating. Honestly, I had already visited this fort but that view motivated me to go visit it. So had my breakfast, talked to the maintainer person there, talking around the weather and no monsoon this year, fear of failing crops etc. So there are 2 ways to reach Mehrangarh from the blue city, there is a walking path and other is a motorable road. I took the walking path through the narrow paths between the houses and a steep, very steep climb, and reach the fort.
Trust me on this, the view from that fort is very unique and spectacular. You get a panoramic view of the city with the old blue city at the foothills and the Umaid Bhavan Palace at a distance atop a small hill.
The Route to Inside
With a grand single entrance the fort welcomes you and warns the infliterators at the same time. There are some symbols of some historical events at the fort.
The cannon ball impacts
On the wall of inner fort wall scarred when the then King of Mewar attacked the fort with full force in the agony of him not being considered for marriage with the princess of Mewar. The fort has seen other attacks as well, so many, that they have to build a new wall around the fort to protect it further, which led to creation of huge geateways.
The Sati Handprints
When you enter the Loha Gate, on the left hand side there are hand prints of all the women who performed a controversial ritual called as "Sati". When the king dies in war then their wives would sit alive in the fire and sacrifice their lives.
The Main Entrance
The stairs lead you to a courtyard which is onlooked by the beautiful ly carved Jharoka Mahal and hold the seat of the throne where the new king is baptised. There are galleries where you can see the Palkis and human chariots they used to ride in.
Sheesh Mahal
This marvel of mirrors takes your breathe away on the amount of intricate details and mirrorwork this room holds. It's beautifully hand-painted and holds a chandelier which brings that room alive with light reflecting across the room.
Moti Mahal
Influenced from the Eurpoean cultures this room has christmas balls hanging the roof and colorful glasswork with intrcate paintings of European women all around the room.
TL;DR
In short you must visit this fort once it is one of the few in India and all over the world which has withstood the test of time and atrocities of emporers. It has been very beaufully preserved and some places restored. You start imagining the time when this fort was active and it gives you goosebumps of what an exhilarating experince it would have been for all those present.
